David Krügel began his dance training at UCT Ballet School in Cape Town. In 1979 he was awarded a scholarship to study with the renowned teacher David Howard in New York City. In 1980 he got his first professional contract with Bejart Ballet. In 1882 he entered the Ballet van Vlaanderen as a solo dancer. In 1998, Jiri Kylian invited him to join the renowned Netherlands Dance Theater 3, a unique company for dancers over 40, where he remained until 2006 and danced for choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Paul Lightfoot, Robert Wilson. , Meryl Tancard, Shusaku Tackiuchi. Since then he has participated in numerous projects. For example, in 2012 he was appointed director of programming for the Hong Kong Ballet, in 2015 he choreographed and starred in “A Spartacus of Africa” for the South African Dance Trust and prepared the staging for the world premiere of "UBUNTU", an opera based in the life of Nelson Mandela. Since 2016 he has taught contemporary ballet, creative movement and repertoire at the Taipei University of Performing Arts.
